Ceremony

We welcome you today to witness the marriage of ____________________ and ____________________according to the Marriage Act, 1995 of Saskatchewan.

My name is Francine Proulx-Kenzle and I am truly honoured to perform my responsibility as marriage commissioner today.

Marriage is a time-honoured institution, based upon traditions of law and social custom. It is a partnership of two people devoted to one another – a partnership sustained by mutual love and understanding through of all life’s varied circumstances.

Marriage must not be entered into lightly, but rather with thoughtful consideration of its purpose and responsibilities. There should also be recognition of those values which foster a lasting and fulfilling relationship between (husband and wife) or (two people). It is into such a relationship that you have chosen to enter today.

The civil ceremony will now unfold, starting with the expression of your vows … followed with the exchange of the rings, to conclude with the signing of the register and the declaration of marriage.

Wedding Vows

I now ask each of you, in the presence of these witnesses to declare, repeating after me:

Starting with you ___________:

“I do solemnly declare, that I do not know of any lawful impediment, why I, ____________, may not be joined in matrimony to _____________.”

__________, please repeat after me:

“I do solemnly declare, that I do not know of any lawful impediment, why I, _____________, may not be joined in matrimony to____________.”

Now, would you face each other, join hands, and let ________repeat after me:

“I call upon these persons here present to witness that I_____________, do take you, ___________, to be my lawful wedded wife/spouse.”

______________, would you repeat after me:

“I call upon these persons here present to witness that I ___________, do take you, ________________, to be my lawful wedded husband/spouse.

Exchange of Rings

Having declared these marriage vows, we will now proceed with the exchange of rings.

From the earliest times, the circle has been a symbol of completeness, a symbol of committed love, this is well represented in the rings that you are about to exchange.

May they be a reminder that your two lives, _________and__________, are now joined in one unbroken circle.

Would you____________, place the ring on the third finger of _________’s left hand, repeating after me:

“__________, I give you this ring that you may wear it, as a lasting reminder of our marriage vows, and as a symbol of my love and commitment to you.”

___________, in response, would you repeat after me: “I accept this ring as a symbol of your love and commitment.”

Would you __________, place the ring on the third finger of__________’s left hand, repeating after me:

“______________, I give you this ring that you may wear it, as a lasting reminder of our marriage vows, and as a symbol of my love and commitment to you.”
